Making the template

Postby marco » Mon Jul 12, 2010 2:07 pm

Hi,

- using the Absolute, do I need to start each panorama on the same detent I started from when building the template?

- Does this apply to the Atome either?
- In this last case, what if the Camera/lens rotates a bit in the mounting collar, between sessions? Is the template still applicable?

Thanks,
Marco

Hello,

It is better to shoot each panorama starting at the same detent you used when creating the template, in order to replicate the exact position.

This also applies to the Atome, if you use a template.

If the lens has rotated then it is not mounted correctly. See the manual for more details.

The template might still work. If it doesn't, you can still use it to load the images and then "generate control points for all images" and optimize. This will align your images perfectly.

The lens doesn't rotate once mounted.

I mean, there is no mark or click stop to mount again the ring in the same position once disassembled (Actually there is no mark on the Atome itself so to start everytime with the same detent, if this is really needed). And even if I keep the ring on the lens, when the Atome is not in use, a small rotation is still possible.

While the Atome is not advertised for template stitching, it is fully capable of such a task. You can mark a detent as a starting point with a sticker or a permanent marker.
Th lens ring is designed to be permanently attached to the lens. Removing the ring requires the calibration of a new template, so it is better to always leave it on.

If you can rotate the lens within the lens ring, then it is not tight enough. See the manual for the visual test.
